World Environment Day awareness programme on beach cleaning activities was held on 24.05.2018 at Royapuram beach in Chennai on the motto of “Cleanliness is Service”. Thiru A.V.Venkatachalam I.F.S., Director of Environment, Tmt. R.Ramila, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, NGC coordinators, ENVIS staff, Fishermen, Non Governmental Organizations, Self help groups, Government officials, and local people have participated in the beach cleaning activities along with NGC Eco Clubs Students in Chennai. Pamphlets, Handbills, Gloves, T-Shirts, Caps, cleaning materials such as brooms, dust bin etc. were provided to all the participants. The participants carried out the cleaning exercise for 1 to 1.25 Km distance in Royapuram beach area. The programme started at 7.30am in the morning which consisted groups of 4 batches and disposed off the accumulated waste through self help group. The NGC students along with participants have taken pledge on “Beat Plastic Pollution”, before commencing beach Cleaning activities.
